Positive Behavior Interventions Supports – Overview (#195)

This course will provide an overview of Positive Behavior Interventions. Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a process for creating safer and more effective schools.  PBIS is a systems approach to school-wide and classroom discipline designed to enhance the capacity of schools to educate all students. PBIS is a research-based data-driven model that works with all students including those with challenging behavior problems.  This one-day 7.5 hour workshop is an overview of PBIS and designed to assist schools in preparing for training and implementation.
Credit:  Administrators’ Academy for Administrators’ Certificate renewal or 5 CEUs for professional development for teachers.

Rethinking the Senior Year:  Model Programs for Keeping Seniors Engaged ( #503)

This course will help administrators address a critical issue with which high schools across the country are struggling.  This course will equip educational leaders with the knowledge, skills, and strategies necessary to conduct a review of senior high school year and effect improvements that can vastly increase the lifelong value of this culmination of the students’ K-12 education.  Participants will rethink approaches to working with high school seniors, building upon a philosophical framework that embraces the themes of transition, self-advocacy, and community service.  Participants will learn how to implement a year-long service project, identify and address important transition issues, design a Senior Institute, encourage project-based and student-directed learning, and foster powerful mentoring relationships that can positively affect the entire school culture.   This will be a six hour course including 30 minutes of application /dissemination.
